Kalyan Singh, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister & senior BJP leader, died in Lucknow on August 21 night after prolonged illness. His funeral took place on August 22. A picture from the tribute ceremony of the 89-year-old leader has triggered a controversy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lucknow on August 22 to pay his respects. A photo from the tribute ceremony shows Kalyan Singh's body draped by the national flag. However, half of it was seen to be covered up by the BJP party flag. Shashi Tharoor, senior Congress tweeted, “As one who had to fight a court case for four years merely for placing my hand on my heart during the singing of the National Anthem (rather than standing stiffly to attention), I think the nation should be told how the ruling party feels about this insult.” Srinivas BV, chief of the Youth Congress asked, “Is it ok to place party flag over Indian flag in New India?” Ghanshyam Tiwari, spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party said, “Party above the Nation. Flag above the Tricolor.” Watch the video to know more.
