Incessant rainfall has created havoc in parts of Madhya Pradesh. Lives of thousands of people are in danger. Normal life has come to a standstill. More than 1,100 people were rescued on August 5 from severely affected villages of the state, reported Hindustan Times. Nearly 25 villages have been submerged fully while 68 are partially underwater, reported Hindustan Times. Many bridges have been washed away at several places. The Chambal river has also swelled due to torrential rains. More than 70 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) & State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indian Air Force & Indian Army helicopters are carrying out rescue operations for the past few days. Reportedly, in the past five days, at least 55,000 people living in 493 villages of Sheopur, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Morena & Bhind have been affected. 31, 000 people have been rescued and as many as 16,000 shifted to 126 relief camps in Chambal and Gwalior division, reported Hindustan Times. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the situation in the state.
