Maharashtra Political Row: SC Rules Eknath Shinde Will Remain Chief Minister; Uddhav Thackeray Cannot Be Restored As He Resigned Before Floor Test

On May 11, the Supreme Court of India ruled that Eknath Shinde will remain Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. The top court ruled in favour of Shinde. SC said that Shinde will get to keep his job though he got the position due to illegal decisions taken by the then governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. This comes as a set-back for Uddhav Thackeray. SC said Uddhav Thackeray resigned instead of facing a test of strength in the assembly. Decision was delivered by a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
