Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on May 18 said that the high number of coronavirus cases in the state made it impossible to ease restrictions. Green zones, however, will see more activity. To keep green zones as they are is a ‘challenge’, but still, Uddhav’s government has given permission for opening 50,000 industries. Pointing out that the migrants are gone, Thackeray asked the locals to pitch in to fill in for them. But he made it clear that there will be no more relaxations for now. He also urged migrant labourers to not walk home but take the train, bus facilities provided by the states. He urged people in the red zones to stay home. Uddhav also addressed the issue of schools and colleges and said talks are on in that direction. He also said that Maharashtra needs to get rid of this situation before monsoon. Maharashtra has 35058 cases with 1249 deaths being reported. It is the worst affected state in the country with Mumbai being the worst affected city with over 20000 cases. On May 18, the Mumbai Police made it clear that no relaxation will be allowed in the Maximum City, which has more than 20 per cent of the country's COVID-19 cases.
