Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 59 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on May 21 to enter the IPL 2025 playoffs. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, have been eliminated. Asked to bat first, the Mumbai Indians did not seem to get any major momentum in the innings as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. But Suryakumar Yadav (73* off 43 balls) held one end strongly and he, along with Naman Dhir (24* off eight balls), went hard in the final two overs, smashing 48 runs to ensure that they finished with a fighting 180/5 on the board. In response, Delhi Capitals got off to the worst possible start as they were reduced to 27/3 at one stage inside the powerplay. Vipraj Nigam showed some signs of fightback with 20 runs off 11 balls and Sameer Rizvi fought hard with a 39-run knock. Apart from this, there wasn't much to say from the other batters. Mitchell Santner (3/11) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/12) were the best bowlers for Mumbai Indians, taking three wickets each, while Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Will Jacks and Karn Sharma got one each.
