Large parts of Mumbai and its suburbs faced a power failure, due to which several trains were held up. The outage, according to the city's electricity supply board, was because of the "TATAs incoming electric supply failure". Traffic signals at some areas too stopped working. However, the Mumbai airport and the stock exchange were functional. The central and western line train services have been restored. Western Railway said the breakdown was due to a grid failure at Tata Power. Commuters were seen walking on rail tracks. Such a large-scale power failure is unprecedented for the country's financial capital. The electricity supply, interrupted at 10:05 am, was expected to be restored in 45 minutes to an hour, the authorities said. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray ordered a probe into the power outage in Mumbai. The supply was then being restored in phases. Central Railway & Western Railways resumed their services after almost two hours of blackout. Within minutes of the outage, people took to social media and hashtags such as #powercut, #Mumbai and #poweroutage started trending on Twitter. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan was among those who took to social media.
