More than 50 journalists have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed on April 20. During a special camp organised at the Azad Maidan on April 16 & 17 for COVID-19 testing of scribes, BMC collected swab samples of 171 mediapersons, including electronic & print media journalists, photographers & cameramen. ‘Out of the 171 media persons, 53 tested positive for coronavirus,’ informed BMC spokesperson Vijay Khabale. Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry said, ‘Journalists testing positive for COVID-19 is very unfortunate news. When you (journalists) attend your call of duty, kindly take the required precautions, follow social distancing and wear face masks.’ Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said precautions must be taken by all and his ministry would issue an advisory in this regard. The number of confirmed cases in Maharashtra has reached 4666 with 232 deaths being reported.
