Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on March 16 said all institutions of India are under constant assault. Interacting with Prof Ashutosh Varshney, a faculty of Brown University, Rahul said, "To me, India is many different, diverse viewpoints.” Elaborating on that, Rahul said, "There is not a single institution which is not under attack. To give you a more nuanced answer, my mic was switched off in Parliament. Gandhi said that Iraq's dictator Saddam Hussein and Libya's Muammar Gaddafi used to win elections as well, as he scaled up his attack on PM Narendra Modi for India's dwindling status in global democracy metrics. "The situation in India is worse, we do not need a stamp regarding that," Gandhi said when asked about the downgrade. Taking prickly questions about calls for him to step aside from the Congress leadership, he said he was protecting a certain ideology in the party. He added that he would not give up just because someone else does not like it & continue to fight the BJP's ideological mentor RSS that he likened to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
