Republic Day 2019 Celebrations: Evolution of the Indian National Flag Tiranga From 1906 to 1947

On January 26, the 70th Republic Day with much enthusiasm. Each corner of the nation will host a chain of events to honour the day when the Indian Constitution was born and became effective in 1950. There are a lot of historical facts that are related to republican India. After years of struggle and countless sacrifices by the Indian freedom fighters, India became a free nation. However, there are some interesting and less-known facts of the Indian national flag. The tiranga-- a horizontal tricolour of deep saffron (Kesari) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom, all in equal proportion with Ashoka Chakra at the centre went through a lot of changes. The present National Flag of India was adopted during the meeting of the Constituent Assembly which was held on July 22, 1947, just a few days before India’s Independence.
