On December 7, the Lok Sabha discussed key issues concerning matters relating to the judiciary. Shashi Tharoor, Congress MP, debated on the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2021. Tharoor said the problem was the government’s influence on judicial transfers & appointments. He said, “A number of judges were transferred inexplicably, even when their retirements were only months away. At least two of these judges include those who had earlier ruled unfavourably for the government in the Ishrat Jahan and Sohrabuddin cases.” Arjun Ram Meghwal, MoS, Parliamentary Affairs, strongly objected. Balubhau Narayanrao Dhanorkar, Congress leader said that several cases have been pending as there are many vacant positions in the courts. Watch the video to know more.
