Sri Lanka Crisis: Ranil Wickremesinghe Sworn-In As Prime Minister, His Sixth Stint Leading Island Nation

On May 12, Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Sri Lanka's prime minister for the sixth time. “I have taken on the challenge of uplifting the economy and I must fulfill it,” he said as reported by ANI. Ranil Wickremesinghe returns to office to replace Mahinda Rajapaksa. The former prime minister of Sri Lanka resigned from his position on May 9 amid nationwide protests. The island nation has witnessed months of power cuts and shortage of essential commodities. The new Prime Minister has a huge task at hand as he takes charge of a bankrupt nation in default of its $51-billion foreign debt. Watch the video to know more.
