Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is being awarded with the Vir Chakra on this Independence Day. The Indian Air Force pilot shot down Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jet during an aerial combat. Established by the President of India on 26 January 1950, the Vir Chakra is the third highest gallantry award in military.
