Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt told reporters outside the venue that the fire spread with alarming speed. He said the flames reached up to the ceiling and that smoke was likely the main cause of death.

According to Chadchart, 27 people lost their lives and 63 others were taken to hospital, including 22 who remain in critical condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Officials said several victims were discovered near a fire exit and suspect the route may have been obstructed. PM Visits Scene, Cites Circuit Breaker Explosion

Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the site and said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

A musician who was performing at the pub told the Prime Minister that he noticed smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the power failed. Moments later, an explosion was heard and the venue filled rapidly with thick smoke. Anutin added that many victims were found in the restrooms at the back of the pub.

Singer Says Bandmate Killed In Fire

Singer Sukanya Wongwongwai, who was performing nearby, rushed to the pub after learning several members of her band were playing there when the fire broke out. She said one bandmate was killed, three others were hospitalized, and another person remains unaccounted for.

She recalled that the power went out and smoke filled the venue almost instantly, making it impossible for people inside to locate one another.

Authorities are continuing their probe into the deadly blaze to determine how the fire started and whether any safety violations contributed to the high death toll.
