Mumbai, March 6: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially cancelled all Class 10 board examinations scheduled to take place in the Middle East between March 7 and March 11, 2026. This decision follows a "critical review" of the rapidly evolving security situation in the region, which has been impacted by escalating geopolitical tensions.
In an official circular issued late Thursday, March 5, the board also announced the postponement of the Class 12 examination originally set for Saturday, March 7, citing the need to prioritise the safety and well-being of thousands of Indian expatriate students and school staff. CBSE Cancels Class 10 Board Exams Scheduled Till March 11 in Middle East
The directives apply to all CBSE-affiliated schools across seven countries: the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. This marks the third time the board has adjusted the 2026 examination schedule in response to regional volatility. Previously postponed papers for Class 10, specifically those from March 2, 5, and 6, are now permanently cancelled rather than rescheduled. For Class 12 students, however, the board has opted for postponement, with a promise to provide revised dates once the situation stabilises.
Class 10 Results and Evaluation
In a significant shift for Class 10 candidates, the board confirmed that no further examinations will be conducted for the affected subjects in the Middle East region. The circular stated that the "mode of declaration of results" for these students will be notified separately in due course. While the specific assessment criteria have yet to be finalised, education experts suggest the board may rely on internal assessments or a weighted average of successfully completed papers to determine final scores. Class 12 students face a different set of challenges, as their exams are currently in a state of indefinite postponement. The CBSE is scheduled to conduct another situational review on Saturday, March 7, to decide the fate of examinations planned from March 9 onward. Students have been advised to remain in close contact with their respective school administrations and to rely strictly on official notifications from the CBSE website to avoid falling victim to viral misinformation.
