A Hong Kong court has sentenced a 48-year-old construction worker to 22 years in prison for repeatedly raping his biological daughter 14 times over a decade. Details of the Abuse and Investigation
The court heard that the abuse began in 2014 when the victim was approximately 13 years old at the family's former home in Shenzhen, reports South China Morning Post. The assaults continued after the victim, her mother, and her younger brother relocated to Hong Kong in 2016, where they initially lived in a Yuen Long flat. Despite later moving to a new residence where the victim had her own room, the defendant repeatedly sneaked into her space to assault her. During the ordeal, the defendant also forced the victim to take contraceptive pills and threatened her, stating, "Since I gave you life, I can make you live or die".
The victim eventually found the courage to report the abuse to the police in April 2024, at the age of 23, after enduring four assaults earlier that year. Before coming forward, she actively gathered evidence by photographing her injuries and recording audio on her phone. Court Sentences and Judicial Remarks
The defendant pleaded guilty to 14 counts of rape and one count of buggery. Citing a psychological report, Judge Kwok noted that the defendant displayed only "superficial remorse". "Your plea may only be a realisation of the [inevitable conviction] rather than genuine remorse," the judge told the defendant. Although the sentence was set at 22 years - which could potentially be reduced to 15 years with remission - Judge Kwok emphasised that the penalty could not undo the severe trauma inflicted upon the victim. "Fifteen years of life in prison does not pay off the suffering of your daughter," the judge said, lambasting the defendant for treating her like a "s*x toy".
