Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi issued a sharp warning to the United States on Wednesday, demanding that Washington restrain Israel following remarks by the Israeli defense minister targeting Iran's top leadership. In a statement published on the social media platform X, Araghchi referenced the "Islamabad MoU," a 14-point memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities in West Asia. He argued that under the terms of the agreement, the United States is obligated to ensure Israeli restraint. The friction intensified after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz reportedly made comments on Monday targeting Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, stating he was "marked for death." Katz also characterized Iranian negotiators as "good merchants" looking to extract concessions during diplomatic discussions. While reiterating Israel's core policy to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, Katz noted a preference for a diplomatic resolution, stating, "If they do it through an agreement, all the better."

Despite the heightened rhetoric, diplomatic channels remain active. U.S. and Iranian officials are currently engaged in indirect, technical talks in Doha, mediated by Qatari and Pakistani officials, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
