It is a known fact that Iran has a hot and dry climate. As the country is suffering from severe drought, its officials have been striving to explain the disastrous weather conditions for quite some time now. To what that can only be termed as bizarre, an Iranian general blamed its neighbouring country Israel for stealing their clouds and snow. Speaking at a press conference on agriculture in the Iranian capital of Tehran, Head of Civil Defence Organization, Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali reported that several Iranian scientific centres had confirmed such foreign role in the climatic condition.

As he was addressing the media, Jalali claimed that scientists have proved that Israel and an unnamed neighbouring country were secretly cooperating to extract the moisture out of clouds, thus robbing the nation. “Joint teams from Israel and one of the neighboring countries make the clouds entering into Iran barren. Moreover, we are faced with the cases of cloud theft and snow theft,” as reported by Tasnim News Agency. Pointing to scientific evidence, Jalali further added a survey which was carried out over the past four years that reveals above 2,200 metres all mountainous areas between Afghanistan and the Mediterranean are covered in snow, but Iran.

Interestingly, Iran’s meteorological service is quite sceptical about the recent claim by the General. However, the head the service, Ahad Vazife admitted that he might not have enough information. He was quoted saying that General Jalali “probably has documents of which I am not aware, but on the basis of meteorological knowledge, it is not possible for a country to steal snow or clouds.” Reports further state that this is not the first time that Iranian’s official has accused the country’s enemies of stealing its rain. In 2011, former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad held Western countries responsible to “cause drought” in Iran.
