Lian Yunzhi, 6-Year-Old Chinese Girl, Breaks Rubik’s Cube World Record Twice in 3 Days
Chinese speedcuber Lian Yunzhi has set a new women's world record for solving a classic 3x3 Rubik's Cube, recording an average time of 4.27 seconds at an official World Cube Association (WCA) tournament and becoming the first female competitor in history to average under 4.5 seconds.
Six-year-old Chinese speedcuber Lian Yunzhi has broken the women's 3x3 Rubik's Cube average world record twice within three days, recording averages of 4.52 seconds in Wuhan and 4.27 seconds in Guangzhou. Her latest performance made her the first female speedcuber reported to have an official competition average below 4.5 seconds, The Telegraph reported.
The results were recorded at competitions certified by the World Cube Association (WCA), the international organisation that oversees official speedcubing competitions. Lian Yunzhi Records 4.27-Second Average
Lian first posted a 4.52-second average at the Wuhan Crimson Autumn 2026 competition. Her five official solves in the final were 4.50, 4.74, 3.54, 5.47 and 4.33 seconds. She then improved the mark at the Guangzhou GraDUAL 3x3 IV 2026 competition. Her five solves were 4.20, 4.39, 4.54, 4.02 and 4.22 seconds, producing an official average of 4.27 seconds. Under standard 3x3 speedcubing rules, the fastest and slowest times are removed when calculating the average, leaving the middle three results.
More Than 1,300 Solving Algorithms
Lian Yunzhi, who is from Chengdu in Sichuan province and is also known by the nickname "Zhizhi", was introduced to speedcubing through an extracurricular class. Her mother, Lin Yangxi, told local media that Lian has since learned more than 1,300 Rubik's Cube solving algorithms and practises for around two to three hours each day. Her training focuses on recognising cube patterns and quickly applying the appropriate algorithms rather than simply completing the puzzle through trial and error.
Young Competitor With Growing Record
The WCA profile for Lian Yunzhi lists her as a competitor from China and records dozens of official competitions and hundreds of completed solves. Her latest Guangzhou result came just days after her previous record in Wuhan, highlighting the rapid improvement in her official competition average.
Lian's latest performances have drawn international attention to competitive speedcubing and the growing participation of young competitors in the sport.
