According to initial information, a suicide bomber allegedly drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the checkpoint before detonating it. TTP Claims Responsibility

The TTP and the Baloch Liberation Army have claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in the country in recent years. The Dera Ismail Khan blast comes days after another major suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On September 18, a suicide car bomb struck a police compound in Kohat, killing at least 16 people and injuring 57 others. Seven attackers were also killed in the subsequent explosion and gunfight, according to Reuters.

Pakistan has repeatedly said that militant groups operating from or linked to neighbouring Afghanistan remain a major security concern. The Taliban government in Kabul has rejected allegations that Afghan territory is being used to facilitate attacks against Pakistan.
