Saudi Air Defences Intercept Four Drones

The attack came amid a wider escalation in security incidents across Saudi Arabia. The Saudi-led coalition said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed four unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the kingdom’s Eastern Province on Wednesday.

The airport incident followed a separate attack involving a drone targeting the Shaybah oil field in southeastern Saudi Arabia. The ministry said the incident caused a vehicle fire outside the facility’s perimeter, while oilfield operations were unaffected. Iran Aiding Houthis with Intelligence Amid Conflict Against Saudi Arabia: Report

US Orders Some Government Personnel to Leave Saudi Arabia

Amid the rising security concerns, the US State Department ordered non-emergency government employees and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott cited increasing hostilities against the kingdom, including attacks on civilian airports and critical infrastructure that have caused casualties and travel disruptions.

The US decision followed a series of attacks on Saudi targets, including airports and energy facilities. The recent incidents have raised concerns about the potential for further escalation and the impact on civilian safety and regional travel.

Houthi Responsibility Not Confirmed

The latest airport attack comes amid repeated strikes on Saudi infrastructure that have been linked to Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement. However, authorities had not publicly established responsibility for the October 21 attack on King Fahd International Airport in the reports available at the time of publication.

Saudi Arabia has faced repeated threats to its airports and energy infrastructure amid the escalating conflict involving the Houthis. The latest incident adds to concerns over the security of civilian aviation and critical facilities in the kingdom.
