Brain Dead Man's Organs Harvested

A 28-year-old brain dead farmer in Telangana has given a new lease of life to some people after his organs were harvested under the Telangana government's 'Jeevandan' programme.

Hyderabad, Jul 5 (PTI) A 28-year-old brain dead farmer in Telangana has given a new lease of life to some people after his organs were harvested under the Telangana government's 'Jeevandan' programme.

Narender, hailing from Nirmal district, was returning home from his farm on June 28 on his bike when he lost control of the vehicle and fell down, sustaining grievious head injuries, the Jeevandan Programme said in a release.

He was immediately taken to a local hospital, where he was in emergency care for two days.

As his condition did not improve, he was shifted to a super-specialty hospital in Hyderabad, the release said.

However, he was declared brain dead on July 2.

The family members consented to donate his organs after officials of the Jeevandan programme counseled them.

Accordingly, his two kidneys, two corneas and a liver were harvested it said, but did not specify the number of patients who got the organs.
