Vadodara, Jan 4 (PTI) Seventy-five vintage cars will be flagged off from the 19th century Lakshmi Vilas Palace here and these will wheel their way to the giant Statue of Unity at Gujarat's Kevadia to mark Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on January 5, organisers said on Wednesday.

The AKAM-themed event will take place a day ahead of the opening of the 10th edition of 21 Gun Salute Concours d'Elegance which will be hosted from January 6-8 in the premises of the iconic palace in the heritage city of Vadodara.

The concours is being organised by 21 Gun Salute Heritage & Cultural Trust in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, and supported by the Gujarat Tourism to boost the 'Incredible India' brand, a spokesperson of the trust said.

Vadodara Lok Sabha member Ranjanben Dhananjay Bhatt is expected to be present during the flag-off ceremony, the organisers told PTI.

Titular king and queen of the erstwhile Baroda State Samarjitsinh Gaekwad and Radhikaraje Gaekwad, among other dignitaries, will also be present on the occasion, they said.

"As per the itinerary planned, 75 vintage cars will be taken on a ride from the Lukshmi Vikace Palace to the famous Statue of Unity to mark the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav which is a celebration of the 75 years of India's independence. And, it's a moment of great pride that vintage beauties will be partbof the celebrations," a senior official of the Trust said.

These cars include Ford A Roadster 1931, Adler Trumpf 1936, Austin Seven 1934, Dodge D2 Convertible Sedan 1936, 1965 Chevrolet Impala and 1948 Humber, organisers said.

The grand automobile show will follow them from January 6-8. Two-hundred dazzling vintage beauties, including a 1911 Napier, a 1930 Cadillac and other rare cars will be displayed in the premises of the Lukshmi Vilas Palace.

After delighting heritage and automobile aficionados and common people alike in Delhi and neighbouring cities for over a decade, the event has moved to Vadodara and it will be hosted at the celebrated Lukshmi Vilas Palace -- the palatial home of the erstwhile royal family of Baroda, they said.

This rare salute to the spirit of motoring will showcase some of the finest and most incredible, and rare cars in the world namely the 1948 Bentley Mark VI Drophead Coupe, 1932 Lancia Astura Pininfarina, 1930 Cadillac V-16, 1928 Gardner roadster, 1911 Napier etc.
