Lucknow, Oct 9 (PTI) The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has directed the state Chief Secretary to constitute a high-powered committee to chalk out a plan for fire safety measures in the state.

A bench of Justice AR Masoodi and Justice OP Shukla passed the order on a PIL registered by the court earlier, taking suo motu cognizance of a fire that broke out last year in Levana Suites Hotel in the city capital.

The bench said had such a committee been constituted earlier, the court would have known whether the right steps had been followed in the wake of the incident.

The bench posted the next hearing for the first week of November.

Four people died and several got injured in a fire that broke out in Levana Suites Hotel in the Hazratganj area of Lucknow on September 5 last year.
