India News | DRI Arrests Two Air India SATS Staff with Smuggled Gold at Cochin Airport

Kochi, Jan 4 (PTI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday arrested two staff of Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS) from the Cochin International Airport here for allegedly possessing over one kg of smuggled gold.

The DRI sleuths said 1.375 grams of gold in compound form was seized from the staff of AISATS at the CIAL.

The DRI officials told PTI that the smuggled gold was handed over by some people who arrived at CIAL on a flight from Dubai.

"DRI Officers discreetly followed the suspected persons and the staff was intercepted after exchange of gold inside the toilet near the baggage belt in the arrival hall," officials said.

On interrogation, the staff admitted his role and also connivance of another employee of AISATS.

The officials have also informed that upon interrogation, it was found that both staff have smuggled gold on several previous occasions evading customs checks.
