Shimla, Feb 24 (PTI) The deployment of police has been strengthened in areas along the India-China border in Himachal Pradesh, DGP Sanjay Kundu informed Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday.

The director general of police (DGP) apprised the government of various initiatives being taken by the force to maintain law and order in the state.

He said a team of police officers had visited the border areas and prepared a report. The DGP also briefed about the internal security, public order and other issues of the state, according to a statement issued here.

He said the state police was working with sensitivity in the matter of drug abuse and drug trafficking and strict action was being taken against those involved in it. He said that cases of crime against women and children were also being dealt with strictly.

Several measures have been ensured through the traffic police regarding road safety so that precious lives could be saved. In addition, the police were taking strong action against organised crimes, especially illegal mining, he added.

He said that in a recent meeting with the Director General of Police of Punjab, it has been decided to work together to deal with drug smugglers, gangsters and criminals in the border areas of both the states. For this, the police have strengthened its network from both sides, he said.

The governor lauded the efforts of the state police and expressed hope that the force would work more vigorously to make "Devbhoomi" free from crime.
