Rajouri/Jammu, Jan 17 (PTI) Unaware that cries from his neighbour's house were because it had caught fire, a village defence group (VDG) member in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district allegedly fired shots in the air mistaking it as a terror incident, officials said.
The fire engulfed Vijay Singh's house in Draman village after which the family members started crying, they said.

A man from the same village mistook it as a suspicious incident and fired aerially with his VDC weapon.
The VDC member fired three bullets in the air, the officials said.

Station House Officer Budhal, N R Thakur said that soon after the incident came to light, teams of forces rushed to the village where it has come to fore that VDC member fired as he mistook cry of his neighbouring family who were actually raising hue and cry due to fire in house.
