MHA Asks WB Govt to Take Action Against 5 IPS Officers for Sitting on Dharna

The conflict between the Centre and West Bengal government does not seem to end any time soon as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked the state government to take action against serving IPS officers who had participated in a dharna in Kolkata.

New Delhi [India], Feb 7 (ANI) The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked the West Bengal government to take action against serving IPS officers who had participated in a dharna in Kolkata.According to sources, the MHA has asked the West Bengal government to take action against five IPS officers namely Virendra, DGP West Bengal, 1985 batch, Vineet Kumar Goyal, Director security (ADG) 1994 batch, Anuj Sharma, ADG law and order, 1991 batch, Gyanwant Singh, Bidhanagar commissionerate 1993 batch and Supratim Sarkar, Additional CP Kolkata police 1997 batch as per All India Service Conduct rules.All these senior officers are from the West Bengal cadre and had participated in a protest with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on February 4.Besides, a number of measures are also being initiated against defaulting officers such as withdrawing medals, decorations which were conferred on them for meritorious service and other.The centre is also contemplating to remove names of delinquent officers from the empanelled list and bar them for a certain period from serving in the central government.The centre is contemplating issuing an advisory to all states that officers of uniformed forces adhere to conduct rules and maintain decorum, sources said.A full-blown face-off between Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government and the Centre erupted after a CBI team moved to arrest Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Sunday. CBI officials were denied entry to the top cop's residence and were also detained briefly. (ANI)
