Mini has announced the upcoming launch of the 2026 Countryman Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) model in India, marking the return of the standard petrol variant after a notable hiatus. Expected to arrive next month, the new Countryman will join the existing John Cooper Works (JCW) and all-electric models, completing the brand's largest vehicle lineup in the country.
The vehicle is expected to be locally assembled at the BMW Group facility near Chennai. This strategic move is anticipated to position the premium compact SUV in the INR 40 lakh to INR 45 lakh price bracket, making it a competitive entry-point into the luxury lifestyle segment. 2026 Mini Countryman Design and Dimensions
The 2026 Countryman retains the distinctive design language seen in its electric and JCW counterparts, featuring signature LED headlight signatures and octagonal grille elements. As the largest vehicle in the Mini portfolio, it measures 4.4 metres in length with a wheelbase of 2.6 metres, offering enhanced cabin space and practicality compared to its predecessor.
Inside, the cabin follows a minimalist and sustainable approach. It features a dashboard made from recycled textile materials and a centrally mounted circular OLED display that serves as both the instrument cluster and infotainment hub. A new three-spoke steering wheel and toggle bar for essential driving functions round out the interior updates.
2026 Mini Countryman Powertrain Options and Performance
India is expected to receive the Countryman in two distinct petrol guises: the Classic and the S All4. The Classic variant is powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 170bhp. The more powerful S All4 variant features a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine delivering 200bhp.
Both engines will be mated exclusively to a seven-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). While the Classic remains front-wheel drive, the S All4 comes equipped with Mini’s "All4" all-wheel-drive system as standard, providing improved traction and stability across varied terrains.
2026 Mini Countryman Release, Competition in Market
By resuming local assembly, Mini aims to target a broader audience within the Indian luxury car market. At its projected price point, the Countryman will compete against established premium SUVs like the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. It also enters a price territory occupied by full-size SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and the Skoda Kodiaq. BMW iX5 Hydrogen Launch in 2028; More Details Here.
Industry analysts suggest that despite the overlap with larger SUVs, the Countryman maintains a unique market position. Its appeal lies in a combination of high-end customisation, iconic British heritage, and a "go-kart" driving feel that remains distinct within the compact luxury crossover segment.
