Greater Noida, February 7: Two-wheeler manufacturer India Yamaha Motor (IYM) today launched the new version of its sports bike YZF-R15 (Version 3.0) priced at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex- showroom Delhi). The bike would be available in two colours - racing blue and thunder grey. The company expects the new version to help to scale its sales numbers in the domestic market and bolster its presence in the 150cc segment.

"We are currently doing 4,000 bikes per month altogether and this alone should be delivering 3,000 biked per month," said the company's Senior VP sales and marketing Roy Kurian. Chairman of Yamaha Motor India group of companies Motofumi Shitara said, "Yamaha is quite confident that this launch will bolster its presence in the popular 150cc segment." Kurian said that it would like to focus on its Fascino scooter range launched in 2015. We want to make it a strong brand in the segment and consolidate in scooters. At present, motorcycles and scooters contribute 50:50 to IYM's sale and that would remain same for next few years.

"We would focus on both the segments. Deluxe (150cc) and premium segments are growing very fast and we would like to emphasize there along with scooters," Kurian said.  IYM has 15 per cent market share in combined deluxe and premium segments.

The company is also looking at India to emerge as the No. 2 market for Yamaha globally. On introduction of electric vehicles, Kurian said that the company is working on it but did not comment over the time frame. On investments, he said that the company has already invested Rs 1,500 crore would invest more if required.
