Tata Altroz premium hatchback will be making its India debut today at an event in Mumbai. Dubbed as India's safest car, the Altroz hatchback is based on the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture. The car maker will also be launching the facelifted avatars of Nexon, Tiago and Tigor apart from the Altroz. The bookings for the Altroz car are already open and the interested buyers can book the car with upfront payment of Rs 21,000. Tata Altroz will be Tata Motors' maiden product for this year. It is based on the 45X concept that was unveiled at Auto Expo 2016. The bookings for the Altroz car are already open and the interested buyers can book the car with upfront payment of Rs 21,000. The car will be seen in five trim levels - XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ(O).

The hatchback recently secured five-star safety ratings at Global NCAP tests. The car carries Impact 2.0 design philosophy seen on Harrier. On the exterior front, the all-new Tata Altroz hatchback will get a sporty grille upfront underlined by dual-chamber projector headlamps with LED DRLs. The hatchback also gets split-style tail lights, 16-inch alloy wheels and much more. The design of the car will be highlighted by five colour tones - High-Street Gold, Skyline Silver, Downtown Red, Midtown Grey and Avenue White.

Inside the cabin, the car comes equipped with a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, 7-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel, cruise control and much more. Ensuring overall safety for the passengers, the company has added dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder, high-speed alert system as standard.

Mechanically, the Tata Altroz gets BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol mill is a 1.2-litre Revotron unit whereas the diesel engine is a 1.5-litre Turbocharged Revotorq motor. The former is capable of making 86PS/113Nm of power figures whereas the latter develops 90 PS of power & 200 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

The hatchback will be Tata's first attempt in the premium hatchback category. It will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza and Volkswagen Polo. Lastly, the Tata Altroz is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
