The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has reiterated that employer contributions to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) are mandatory for eligible workers, and laid out the official route for employees who find these deposits missing from their accounts. The clarification comes after the monthly statutory wage ceiling for EPF, EPS and EDLI was revised from INR 15,000 to INR 25,000 under provisions aligned with the Code on Social Security, bringing a much larger set of private-sector earners into the mandatory pension net.

What The Revised Ceiling Means

Anyone joining their first formal job with basic pay plus dearness allowance of up to INR 25,000 now automatically becomes an EPS member. Employers must route a defined portion of their retirement contribution into the employee's EPS account, instead of crediting the entire employer share to EPF. Missing PF Contributions? Step-by-Step Guide To Check Your EPF Passbook and File a Grievance.

Earlier, workers drawing between INR 15,000 and INR 25,000 were often left out of compulsory pension enrolment. That gap has now closed.

Spotted A Zero EPS Entry? Start With HR

EPFO has advised employees who see absent or zero EPS entries in their monthly passbook to first approach their company's HR or payroll team and request an internal audit of PF records. The body noted that many such cases stem from misclassification at onboarding or payroll software errors after the threshold change. EPFO Wage Ceiling Hike From October 1: Why Your Take-Home Salary May Fall.

How To File A Complaint On EPFiGMS

If the employer does not fix the issue or disputes the contribution, employees can file a formal grievance on the EPF Internet Grievance Management System (EPFiGMS).

  • Visit epfigms.gov.in
  • Select your filer status, such as PF Member or EPS Pensioner
  • Enter your UAN and PF account details, then choose the complaint category
  • Upload supporting documents like salary slips and PF contribution statements

A unique registration number is generated after submission, which can be used to track the complaint online.

Why Delays Can Cost You Later

EPFO cautioned that contribution gaps should not be left pending, since they directly affect pensionable service and average pensionable salary. Unresolved errors can lead to delayed pension settlement, lower monthly pension, or rejection of survivor pension claims after retirement or the member's death.

Employers have also been asked to approach their jurisdictional EPFO regional office to correct past remittance errors and stay compliant.
