HDFC Bank’s internal investigation has reportedly found evidence that two senior executives disclosed confidential business strategies and potentially market-sensitive information to outsiders, according to a Bloomberg report. The investigation is ongoing, with the lender examining whether the information was misused.

The executives, who oversee key businesses and functions at the bank, have been formally informed of the findings. However, it remains unclear what disciplinary action, if any, will follow. The bank has not publicly identified the executives involved or announced a final decision.

An HDFC Bank spokesperson acknowledged the internal review but declined to comment on its findings or disclose the identities of those under scrutiny.

“In line with our policies, an internal review into this matter is currently underway to gather and evaluate all relevant facts,” the spokesperson said, according to Bloomberg. The bank added that appropriate action would be taken once the review is complete. SBI Data Breach: Bank Confirms 3,897 Customer Records Exposed on Dark Web, Says Core Banking Not Affected.

The findings were reportedly shared with senior management, including some board members, earlier this year.

Why Is HDFC Bank Under Scrutiny?

The investigation comes at a crucial time for HDFC Bank, which is preparing for a leadership transition amid boardroom differences and senior management departures.

Anup Bagchi, a veteran of the ICICI Group, is scheduled to take over as chief executive on October 27, succeeding Sashidhar Jagdishan. In March, chairman Atanu Chakraborty resigned, citing differences between his personal values and certain practices at the bank. An independent legal review commissioned by HDFC Bank subsequently concluded that his concerns were not substantiated.

Kaizad Bharucha, the lender’s deputy managing director and one of its longest-serving executives, has also sought to leave the bank at the end of December.

How Has HDFC Bank’s Share Price Performed?

According to the Bloomberg report, HDFC Bank’s share price had declined around 28% in 2026 as of October 21. The lender has a market value of approximately USD 115 billion and has built its reputation on conservative management, strong internal controls and consistent profitability.

The bank reiterated its commitment to high standards of ethics and governance, stating that it takes reports of potential violations seriously.

The internal review remains underway, and the bank has yet to announce its final findings or any disciplinary action against the executives concerned.
