Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Balyan was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside a gym in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli on Wednesday evening, police said. The attackers allegedly opened fire as Balyan was leaving the gym in the Shamli Kotwali police station area. He sustained severe bullet injuries and collapsed at the scene.

Police reached the spot after receiving information about the firing and rushed Balyan to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, India Today reported. The shooting took place as Balyan was stepping out of the gym. The sudden firing left him critically injured before he collapsed at the spot. A police team subsequently arrived and took him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police have launched an investigation into the killing and are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the crime scene in an effort to identify the attackers. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established.

Balyan, a native of Bantikhera, had built a following through Haryanvi music and social media content. He gained widespread recognition for his song Bhari Court Mein Goli Maarenge Meri Jaan and had previously attracted public attention in 2023 following a roadshow in Shamli.

Reports indicate that Balyan was also preparing to contest the upcoming District Panchayat elections. His death has triggered concern in the area as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Balyan's digital presence centred heavily on hyper-local Haryanvi pop music videos, swagger-driven portrayals, and podcasts. His music content prominently featured themes of regional pride, "Desi" attitude, rural grit, and high-energy law-and-order tropes. Several of his songs revolved around gun culture, local politics and youth bravado.

As a creator, Balyan worked as both lead performer and producer. He collaborated with prominent Haryanvi playback artists including Masoom Sharma, Raju Punjabi and Aashu Twinkle.

Music, Podcasts And Political Content

Beyond music videos, Balyan expanded his online presence through political podcasts and ground-level vlogging. He interviewed local politicians and community figures across Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, building a digital profile that extended beyond music.

His songs included 112 NE, Goli Ke Barood, Jaat Jatni, Agla Janam Jaat, Savidhan, Modi Barga Rutba, Jaat Dharmender Ki Tariya, Ek Khtola Jail Ke Bhitar, Wait, System, and Riflein.

Following the shooting, police began reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the unidentified assailants and establish how the attack was carried out.

Senior police officials have said that the exact cause of the murder will be confirmed only after a detailed probe. Investigators are expected to examine Balyan's recent activities, personal and professional associations and other possible leads as they work to establish the motive and identify those responsible.
