Richa Chadha turns 33 today. She turns a year wiser and more talented because this actress can be anything but talented. She is one woman who never felt the need to conform to the unsaid rules laid down for the females of this industry. She has always spoken her mind and did roles that she felt suited her. That makes us super proud of her and her film choices. Richa Chadha on Inside Edge 2: ‘Very Proud of the Work That Has Gone into It’

Richa had quite a tumultuous childhood. If reports are to be believed, her family had to flee to Delhi from Amritsar in the wake of the unrest in Punjab many years back. She was all of two years old and grew up hearing about those times. She has struggled a lot to get her moment in front of the camera as well. In fact, Gangs Of Wasseypur turned out to be a boon and bane for her. While it gave her widespread recognition, it also got her so stereotyped in similar roles that all she received were roles to play mothers to superstars.

But Richa made it happen despite all that and thus we thought we need to tell you a few things more about her.

#Bulimia strikes

Richa Chadha in her interview with Cosmopolitan opened up about the eating disorder which wrecked her. She said, "I was told I should gain weight, then lose weight, fix my nose and inflate my lips, get a boob job, lose the puppy fat, grow my hair out, get highlights, squat for a bigger booty, run in heels, wear Spanx, pout while talking, and listen attentively. I crumbled under the pressure like a wrecking ball had hit me. And that’s when I ‘got acquainted’ with bulimia. I hated myself...I gained weight in a strange way and felt like a failure. In an industry where competition is brutal and unending, it gets difficult to find relevant work."

But Richa fought it and won over it!

#Hrithik Roshan's mother

This is going to amuse and amaze you. While speaking to Anupama Chopra on her show, Richa recounted a casting call where she was asked if she would be interested to play Hrithik Roshan's mother. It happened because she played Nawazuddin Siddiqui's mother in the Gangs of Wasseypur series.

#Nobody says no to Richa

Before entering films, Richa interned with a Men's fashion magazine. Her job required her to interview Abhay Deol who said no to it. Recalling the incident, she revealed in an interview to TOI, "He asked if he could be featured on the cover but somebody else was already being featured so that couldn't happen. I was however charmed by his confidence. He said, ‘I have my two to three films coming up, you will anyway give me cover someday.’ And it did happen. He was on the magazine cover after a few months and went on to become a thinking woman’s sex symbol for that issue."

She later debuted with his movie Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!

#Scents and sensibility

Everybody has a fetish and in Richa's case, it is perfume. She wears perfumes that according to her suit the character she is playing. For GOW, she wore an ittar drawn from jasmine flowers, Provocative Women for Fukrey, so on and so forth.

#A model start

Many may not know Richa began her career by modelling. She was one of the contestants of Gladrags Megamodel 2008.
