The film, which was initially slated for a Pongal 2026 release, encountered significant delays primarily due to issues with its censorship process and a major piracy incident.
The actress stated that the CBFC has now cleared the film, although she did not reveal the exact date. Reports suggest that the film might hit theatres later this July, with specific dates such as July 15, July 16, July 23, or July 24, 2026, being discussed by distributors and OTT partners. However, an official announcement from the makers is still awaited to confirm the precise release schedule.
According to reports, the CBFC granted Jana Nayagan an 'A' certificate due to its violent, political, and religious content, recommending certain edits and changes, including a character name played by Priyamani. The final cut is also expected to feature a special title card, "The Honourable Chief Minister," alongside Vijay's name.

Beyond the release update, Priyamani also shared her heartfelt thoughts on working with Thalapathy Vijay for the first time in Jana Nayagan, a collaboration she described as “unforgettable”. He's a born leader.” She further noted his calm, focused demeanour and his natural ability to command respect.
Earlier, Priyamani had openly expressed her desire to work with Vijay, and as a fan, she also conveyed a widely shared sentiment: “I really wish this shouldn't be Vijay sir's last film, but end of the day, it's his call.
