Popular South actor and director Rajasekar, who had acted in blockbuster serials like Saravanan Meenatchi and Mappillai, passed away today (September 8) morning. According to reports, the veteran actor-director, who was only 61 years old, breathed his last at his home, owing to some illness. Rajasekar, who is known for his works primarily in Telugu cinema and few Tamil films, has acted in several films such as Pratighatana, Repati Pourulu, Station Master, Shrutilayalu, Kashmora, Aradhana, Talambralu, Aruna Kiranam, Mamatala Kovela and Akka Mogudu.

Rajashekar, who entered the Tamil entertainment industry as a director, helmed film like Palaivanacholai and Chinnapoove Mella Pesu, ushered in new wave cinema in the Tamil film industry. From working as a director, writer to cinematographer for many films multifaceted person, had a successful stint in every department of cinema he took charge of.

On the career front, Rajasekar had made his Telugu film debut in 1985 with Vande Mataram. In a career spanning more than thirty years, the actor, who has acted in over eighty films in various roles, gave blockbuster films like Talambralu, Shrutilayalu, Aahuti, Ankusham, Magaadu, Allari Priyudu, Anna, Omkaram, Suryudu, Sivayya, Manasunna Maaraju, Maa Annayya, Simharasi, Evadaithe Nakenti and Gorintaku, among many others.
