How Vijay Met Sangeetha Sornalingam
In an interview with Excuse Me, Vijay shared details about how he first met Sangeetha on the sets of his 1997 film Love Today. Sangeetha, the daughter of a London-based Sri Lankan Tamil industrialist, had travelled to Chennai to meet Vijay as an admirer of his work. Recalling their initial interactions, Vijay mentioned that both of them were introverted and that a natural friendship gradually developed.
"We met on the sets of Love Today. I had come to meet my fans, and that's when I met Sangeetha and her parents. They spoke very well. Just like me, she is reserved," Vijay said during the interview. After inviting her to his residence, Vijay recalled how his father, filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar, took a strong liking to Sangeetha and brought up the subject of marriage.
Describing that moment, Vijay recounted, "My father liked her. When he said he wanted to talk to me, I got anxious. But he asked about Sangeetha, and I said she's a nice girl, why are you asking? Then he asked if I wanted to get married. I was taken by surprise and asked for some time. Later, our families met, and we got engaged".
Vijay also spoke warmly of her role in his personal and professional life, highlighting her frank feedback on his projects. "She is very understanding, that's the main reason. She gives honest opinions after each of my film releases. Her feedback is often on point... Putting all that aside, she has played the biggest role in my life," he added.
Sangeetha Sornalingam Withdraws Divorce Petition
The archival comments regained traction following Sangeetha's decision to formally drop her divorce application at the Chengalpattu Family Court. Sangeetha appeared before the court via video conference and informed the judge that she no longer wished to pursue the case. The court recorded her statement, noted no objections from the respondent’s counsel, and disposed of the matter while granting her liberty to file afresh in the future if necessary.
