Veteran actor Shriram Lagoo has died at the age of 92. He passed away at a private hospital in Pune. He will forever be remembered for his extensive work in films and theatre. His most popular film was Pinjara, by V Shantaram that released to critical acclaim in 1972. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Marathi Film.

In a career spanning over four decades, in two film industries, Shriram Lagoo has worked on over 165 films, in lead or supporting roles. He has been conferred with a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his exemplary performance in the film, Gharonda, which came out in the year 1978. In 1997, he was conferred with Kalias Samman, an award given out by Madhya Pradesh government to honour the best of best in the field of arts.

Shriram, named after a Hindu God, was popular for his non-religious beliefs. He worked in a play where he had to stand before an idol of Lord Vitthal. During an interview, he was asked he was a devotee in real life or was it just the demand of the script that made him do that. Shriram had answered, "I stood there as if I was standing in front of a stone idol that is known as Panduranga."

Shreeram Lagoo was a man of science. He studied to become a surgeon. He even practiced as a doctor in Pune for six years, while actively participating in theatre. He also trained in Canada and England in the medical field. But the love for acting brought him back to India, where he established his legendary name.
