CBSE Answer Sheet Row: Board Accepts Digital Evaluation Mistake After Student Claims Physics Copy Is Not His, Issues Correct Answer Sheet

The CBSE admitted to a major error in its digital evaluation process after a Class 12 student, Vedant Shrivastava, proved an uploaded Physics answer sheet wasn't his. Following widespread complaints of mismatched handwriting, the board launched an internal probe, corrected his records, and roped in IIT teams to audit its technical framework.

Concerns over the integrity of the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) Class XII (Class 12) digital evaluation process have intensified after multiple students alleged that scanned answer sheets uploaded by the board under their roll numbers did not match their handwriting. The dispute, which centers on the board's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, gained national traction after a Delhi-based student, Vedant Shrivastava, went viral on social media claiming the Physics copy provided to him belonged to an entirely different candidate.

In a significant development, senior journalist Marya Shakil reported that the CBSE has formally taken cognisance of the matter and initiated an internal probe into the scanning and tagging process. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shakil said that JS-Coordination wrote to Vedant attaching his correct answer book and confirmed that the error pointed out by him was real. "CBSE has accepted the mistake and issued him his  answer sheet," she said.  CBSE Class 12 Answer Sheet Photocopy 2026: Board To Refund Extra Charges Deducted in Scanned Copy Applications in Class 12 Post-Result Process.

Vedant Shrivastava Alleges Discrepancy in the Physics Evaluation

The row deepened after Shrivastava accessed his evaluated answer sheets through the board's post-result photocopy process. Having received unexpectedly low marks in Physics, the student compared the file provided by the CBSE with his evaluated English and Computer Science sheets, discovering a stark contrast in writing styles. "The Physics answer sheet sent by CBSE is not my answer sheet at all. I know this is not my handwriting and it did not have the questions I attempted,” Shrivastava wrote in a social media thread.

"The handwriting style, letter formation, spacing, slant, sentence flow - everything is different. This is not a minor variation. It is completely different writing," he added. The student further added that the error directly compromised his engineering eligibility, stating, "I am awarded 50% marks for the answers written by some other student. Where is my real answer sheet? Where are my real marks? Because of that I am not getting 75% in PCM aggregate.”

Widespread Complaints Cloud the OSM System

Shrivastava's case has triggered a broader wave of student grievances, with several other candidates coming forward to report similar anomalies in their digitized papers. Another Class XII student, Sanjana, reported an identical issue with her Chemistry answer sheet, noting that while the front cover carrying her personal credentials was accurate, "not a single page inside appears to be mine". Other candidates have cited blurry scans, missing pages, and unresolved payment deductions despite completing the re-evaluation transaction. The digital system was originally introduced by the CBSE to enhance evaluation fairness and transparency. However, students are now questioning whether manual tagging errors during the high-volume scanning phase have led to cross-contamination of answer scripts. CBSE Class 12 Answer Sheet Photocopy 2026: Board Clarifies Incorrect Fee Deductions, Assures Automatic Refunds After Post-Result Re-Evaluation Portal Glitches.

CBSE Launches Probe and Seeks Technical Audit

Following intense online discourse and media reporting, the board has stepped in to isolate the technical failure. India Today journalist Marya Shakil confirmed the administrative response, stating: "CBSE has accepted the mistake and issued him his  answer sheet". The internal probe comes on the heels of macro-level interventions by the Union Education Ministry. To stabilise the post-examination portal infrastructure, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has roped in specialized technical teams from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur to audit CBSE's IT frameworks, user authentication logs, and payment gateways to ensure a glitch-free rectification process moving forward.
