The 8th Pay Commission is holding meetings with employee unions, pensioner associations and other stakeholder groups before finalising its recommendations on salaries, pensions, fitment factor and Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners.

Nearly one crore beneficiaries, including around 50 lakh central government employees and about 65 lakh pensioners, are awaiting the Commission's recommendations, which are expected next year. The Centre will implement the revised pay structure only after approving the Commission's final report.

What Is the Fitment Factor in the 8th Pay Commission?

The fitment factor is a multiplier used by pay commissions to calculate revised basic pay and pensions.

The formula is:

Current Basic Pay × Fitment Factor = Revised Basic Pay

Employee organisations have demanded a higher fitment factor, with proposals ranging from 1.83 to 3.83. However, the 8th Pay Commission has not yet made any official recommendation. 8th Pay Commission Arrears: How Much Level 1-5 Employees Could Get With 2.0 to 2.86 Fitment Factors.
