The Delhi High Court on Thursday referred the defamation dispute between journalist Anjana Om Kashyap, TV Today Network and educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, to mediation, declining to grant immediate interim relief while encouraging both sides to explore an amicable settlement. The mediation process was directed to begin the same day under the supervision of a senior mediator, with the matter scheduled for further hearing on July 9.

Court Suggests Amicable Resolution

Justice Tushar Rao Gedela observed that the parties appeared willing to resolve the dispute through mediation and appointed a senior mediator to facilitate discussions. Anjana Om Kashyap Faces Legal Complaint Over ‘Black and White’ Episode on India-Pakistan Partition After Former IPS Amitabh Thakur Moves Lucknow Court.

The court also issued notice on an application filed by the defendants seeking rejection of the plaint and deferred consideration of the interim injunction sought by Kashyap and TV Today Network until after the mediation proceedings.

Khan Sir Agrees to Remove Child's School Details

During the hearing, counsel for Anjana Om Kashyap submitted that one of the defendants had publicly disclosed the school attended by her minor children, leading to alleged life threats against the journalist. Copies of the alleged threats were placed before the court.

Responding to the concern, Khan Sir's counsel agreed to immediately remove all public references relating to Kashyap's children and their school.

The court remarked that while criticism of public figures is permissible, it should remain within acceptable limits, and suggested that the parties consider deleting the specific remarks that had triggered the dispute. Anjana Om Kashyap, Aroon Purie Booked: Ludhiana Police File FIR Against Aaj Tak Anchor and India Today Group Chairman for Hurting Valmiki Community Sentiments on Black and White Show.

Court Advises Both Sides to Resolve Dispute

Justice Gedela observed that the dispute should ideally not have reached the courtroom and noted that both journalists and educators carry public responsibilities.

The court encouraged the parties to identify and remove the specific objectionable statements while allowing them to maintain their respective positions on the broader controversy.

Background of the Defamation Suit

Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network filed a defamation suit against Khan Sir and several others over allegedly defamatory social media posts that followed Kashyap's remarks during a television debate on "star teachers" and the commercialisation of education.

The plaintiffs have sought damages and removal of the allegedly defamatory content, alleging that the online campaign harmed their reputation and compromised their family's privacy. The case remains pending before the Delhi High Court, with the next hearing scheduled for July 9 after mediation proceedings.
