Arunachal Pradesh Rain Fury: 4 Dead, 5 Army Personnel Missing After Landslide and Flash Flood
Four people were killed in a major landslide and five Indian Army personnel went missing after flash floods struck two separate locations in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday evening. The twin disasters, triggered by heavy rainfall across the northeastern state, have prompted joint search and rescue operations involving military, police, and disaster response forces.
Heavy rain triggered a flash flood and landslide in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday evening, leaving four people dead in Upper Subansiri district and five Army personnel missing in Dibang Valley, officials said on Saturday. Rescue and search operations are underway at both locations as authorities work to locate those trapped or missing, India Today reported.
Flash Flood Sweeps Away Army Shelters
In Dibang Valley, a flash flood caused by heavy rainfall swept away two shelters at the 5th Grenadier's Pasu Pani Army Camp on Friday evening. According to officials, seven Army personnel were swept away in the incident. Two were subsequently rescued, while five remain missing. Four Killed in Upper Subansiri Landslide
A separate landslide struck the Keojaring-Byaching road cutting site in Upper Subansiri district, where several people were reportedly trapped under debris. Four people — Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali — have been reported dead. The body of Babul Ali has been recovered, while search and recovery operations continue for the others.
Personnel from Nacho Police Station have been deployed at the site. Fire and Emergency Services teams are being mobilised from Daporijo, while the State Disaster Response Force is also assisting in the operation.
Rescue Operations Continue
The two incidents occurred on Friday evening as heavy rainfall affected parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The State Emergency Operations Centre in Itanagar is coordinating information on the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation while search teams work in difficult terrain to locate the missing Army personnel and recover those trapped in the Upper Subansiri landslide.
The incidents come during an active monsoon period in the Northeast, where heavy rainfall can trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous areas.
Focus on Search and Recovery
The immediate priority remains the search for the five missing Army personnel in Dibang Valley and the recovery operation at the landslide site in Upper Subansiri. With multiple agencies now involved, officials are working to coordinate rescue operations while assessing the impact of the heavy rainfall across the affected areas.
