Capgemini Bengaluru Daycare Case: Previous Whistleblower Sacked After Reporting Child Abuse to Management
A fired whistleblower’s shocking videos exposed systemic child abuse at a Capgemini campus daycare in Bengaluru. The footage showed toddlers being locked in bathrooms and placed inside washing machines to stop them from crying. Following the whistleblower's leak, police booked five caregivers, and the company shut the facility.
Caregivers at the daycare facility located inside the Brookefield campus of Capgemini in Karnataka's Bengaluru systematically abused toddlers left in their care, a district child protection officer said on Thursday, July 2. Following the emergence of disturbing footage documenting the mistreatment, police registered a criminal case against five female employees, prompting the global IT consulting firm to temporarily suspend operations at the childcare centre.
Extent of the Alleged Abuse
According to Probation Officer Tilakesh Kumar, between 50 and 60 children were enrolled at the centre, with 15 to 20 attending on a daily basis. Kumar stated that the mistreatment was not an isolated occurrence. "This has been happening for a long time..." he said. "Earlier, someone informed the supervisor but [then] said no action was taken," he added. According to Kumar, a previous whistleblower who attempted to report the ongoing misconduct to management was terminated from their position. While authorities had long harboured suspicions of institutional child abuse at the campus crèche, investigators had been unable to secure definitive proof until this week.

Chilling Video Evidence Surfaces
The investigation gained traction after a complainant came forward with highly graphic video evidence of the centre's practices, which led to a formal alert being filed through a children's helpline. The footage showed children as young as two years old being placed inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine while water was jet-sprayed at them. Other segments showed the toddlers being locked inside dark bathrooms. "The people who are supposed to take care of the children... they abuse them because the children cry or make some sound. To stop them crying, they take the child and put him/her inside washing machines and lock them in the bathroom... this is the complaint we got," Kumar explained. "After this we contacted the complainant... and they shared the videos with us," he added. "So immediately we went to the police station and filed the complaint," Kumar added.
Legal Action and Corporate Response
Following the formal intervention by the child protection unit, local law enforcement filed a first information report (FIR) naming five caregivers identified as Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Sindhu, Bhavani, and Bindu. The gathered video files have been formally submitted to the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to aid an independent statutory inquiry. Capgemini responded to the developments by announcing an immediate, temporary closure of the on-site day facility as a "precautionary measure" while internal and external investigations proceed. In a public statement, the company emphasised that its "foremost priority is the health, safety, and well-being of its employees and their families". The firm stated that it is currently "cooperating fully" with law enforcement and child safety regulators to establish the facts surrounding the operation of the centre.
