Mumbai, March 1: An earthquake of 4.3-magnitude on the Richter scale shook Maharashtra's Palghar district on Friday morning. Residents of Palghar felt tremors at 11:00 am. The earthquake was felt over a large area, Dahanu Tehsildar Rahul Sarang told a leading daily. The depth of the quake was 5 km. However, there were no reports of any casualty or damage to property.

Palghar district has witnessed over 40 earthquakes since November last year. A couple of NDRF teams have camped in the district. On February 20, three successive earthquakes of magnitude 2.9, 2.9, and 3.1 hit Palghar. No casualties or damage to property were reported. On February 1, mild tremors were experienced in Dahanu and Talasari talukas of the district.

A two-year-old girl had at that time died after falling and suffering a head injury at a village as panicked locals rushed out of their homes, according to police. A tribal-dominated district and an industrial centre, Palghar, is situated around 110 km north of state capital Mumbai with thousands commuting by local trains to Thane and Mumbai daily to earn a living.
