Ganesh Chaturthi 2026: Konkan Railway To Run 254 Special Trains From September 11
The Konkan Railway announced 254 special trains, operating from September 11 to 27, for the Ganpati festival starting September 14. In anticipation of the heavy passenger rush during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Konkan Railway has announced the operation of 254 special trains to facilitate smooth and comfortable travel for commuters returning to their hometowns. The festival season officially begins with Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14. To manage the massive influx of travellers, special services have been scheduled across key regional routes starting September 11.
Operations and Route Network
Addressing a press conference in Margao, South Goa, Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) Deputy General Manager Baban Ghatge stated that 246 of the special trains will be operated in close coordination with the Central Railway between September 11 and September 27. These services will connect major transit hubs across Maharashtra and neighbouring states. Key operating routes include:
- Mumbai to Konkan & Goa: Services running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Sawantwadi, Ratnagiri, Madgaon, and Mangaluru.
- Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT): Dedicated specials connecting LTT to Ratnagiri, Madgaon, and Mangaluru.
- Pune Connections: Special routes operating between Pune and Ratnagiri, as well as Pune and Sawantwadi.
Additionally, eight special trains will be operated in coordination with the Western Railway, originating from stations such as Bandra Terminus (Mumbai), Vadodara, Vishvamitri, Bhusawal, and Valsad.
Booking and Ticketing Guidelines
Bookings for all announced special trains have officially commenced. Railway authorities have advised passengers to secure their seats well in advance. “I request passengers to go ahead and book tickets on these special trains rather than depending on the regular trains being run by Konkan Railway, so that they can travel comfortably,” Ghatge said.
Because these special services operate on varied schedules, travellers are strongly advised to check exact dates, halts, and timings using the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app, the official Konkan Railway portal, or the IRCTC ticketing website before planning their journey.
