Ghaziabad, March 25: A dinner invitation between friends ended in a double homicide late Monday night in Ghaziabad’s Tronica City. A 38-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his wife and a close colleague after confronting them over a suspected long-term affair. The incident took place in the presence of the couple's seven-year-old son, who witnessed the shooting before the suspect fled the scene.
The suspect, identified as Rashid, a local carpenter, had reportedly invited his friend and colleague, 32-year-old Faheem Ansari, to his home in Rampark Colony for dinner. According to police reports, the three individuals spent several hours eating and smoking together before tensions escalated near midnight. Investigators believe Rashid used the gathering to confront the pair about an alleged relationship that had reportedly been ongoing for two years. As a heated argument broke out, Rashid allegedly retrieved a pistol from an almirah and opened fire at close range.
Witness to the Crime
The couple’s seven-year-old son was in another room when he heard the altercation. Following the shooting, the child told investigators that his father told him "everything will be fine now" before fleeing the residence. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed the victims to a nearby hospital where both were pronounced dead on arrival.
History of Domestic Disputes
Initial police inquiries suggest that the household had been under significant strain for months. Rashid had reportedly discovered the alleged affair six months ago, around the time of their eldest son’s wedding.
Officers noted that Shabnam had recently expressed a desire for a divorce and was planning to sell the family home, which was registered in her name. Police suspect this financial and personal dispute may have served as a catalyst for the violence. Both the suspect and the deceased friend also had prior criminal records involving theft and firearm violations.
Police Manhunt Underway
Ghaziabad police have registered an FIR for murder based on a complaint filed by Faheem’s father. Three separate police teams have been formed to track down Rashid, who remains at large.
The victims leave behind seven children, ranging in age from 18 months to 20 years. Authorities are currently conducting raids to recover the murder weapon and are awaiting formal post-mortem reports to further the investigation.
