As the situation escalated, other passengers contacted the railway helpline for assistance. Officials stated that the man allegedly became violent during the confrontation, eventually seizing a fire extinguisher from the coach and using it to assault fellow travellers.
Detention and Sudden Collapse
Because Surat was the next scheduled halt after Mumbai, police teams were prepared to intervene upon the train’s arrival at approximately 10:00 PM on Monday, August 10. Law enforcement officials reported that the man resisted arrest, requiring 10 to 15 personnel to restrain him. The individual was subsequently taken to the RPF post along with two co-passengers to provide statements regarding the incident. While being questioned, the man suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the SMIMER Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have yet to confirm the man’s identity or nationality, as he was not carrying any official identification documents at the time of the incident. Authorities recovered a mobile phone from the deceased, which is currently being analysed to assist in the investigation. "The deceased was not carrying any identification document, but we are trying to establish his identity and nationality. A mobile phone was found on him. We have begun an inquiry according to protocol," said Deputy Superintendent of Police D.H. Gor.
Officials have stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following the results of a postmortem examination.
