A minor argument over borrowed clothing turned fatal in Goregaon West late Tuesday night, after a 37-year-old animal caretaker allegedly beat his 26-year-old friend to death. The dispute escalated when the accused confronted the victim for using his clothes and personal items without asking, ultimately striking him with a sidewalk stone.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on September 9 near King Studio, opposite Utkarsh Small Finance Bank on S.V. Road. According to the police, the deceased, identified as Suraj Dole, was involved in a heated verbal altercation with the accused, Babasaheb alias Subodh Waghmare, who resides on a local footpath. A mutual friend, Sudhanshu Pandey, noticed the argument and stepped in to mediate. During the exchange, Waghmare accused Dole of repeatedly taking his belongings without permission, specifically pointing out a missing bag of clothes that Dole had taken without asking and failed to return.
Tensions boiled over when Dole allegedly verbally abused Waghmare during the confrontation. In response, Waghmare attacked Dole with his bare hands before picking up a stone from the sidewalk and striking him in the face. The severity of the blow left Dole bleeding profusely on the street, while Waghmare fled the scene immediately after the assault. Dole was later discovered dead at the spot from his injuries. Following a complaint lodged by the victim's father, Shankar Dole, the Goregaon Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Waghmare. The case has been booked under Sections 103(1) (murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have launched a search to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
