Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's scheduled visit to Uttar Pradesh, including programmes in Meerut and Varanasi, has been postponed, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) attributing the decision to event-scheduling and logistical factors. The ECI said the decision was taken on September 21 and cited factors such as venue availability, schedules of senior officials and natural conditions. The Commission also said postponement or rescheduling of official events is part of routine planning. The timing of the postponement has drawn attention as it comes amid reports of differences within the three-member Election Commission over various decisions, including issues linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Reports have said Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded objections on certain matters involving the Commission. The ECI, however, has maintained that its decisions have been taken unanimously. The postponed Uttar Pradesh programmes are part of the ELC 2.0 initiative aimed at promoting electoral awareness among students and young voters. Kumar had earlier attended an ELC 2.0 conference in Lucknow on August 24.
