A special court dealing with the Protection of Children from S*xual Offences (POCSO) Act has convicted a 22-year-old madrasa teacher and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for s*xually assaulting an 11-year-old student in 2022. The court also imposed a fine of INR 10,000 on the convict, Syed Nadeem, following a successful trial and investigation by the city police.

The case came to light in March 2022 when the victim's father noticed changes in his son's behavior and filed a formal complaint. According to the police, the boy had been regularly attending Madrasa Jamia Noorul Anwar at Shaheen Nagar before the incident occurred.

According to the complaint lodged by a man on 23 March 2022 with Balapur Police Station, his 11-year-old son was regularly attending Madrasa Jamia Noorul Anwar at Shaheen Nagar.

Noticing that his son had stopped attending the Madrasa for a week and appeared highly disturbed, the complainant asked him about the reasons. The subsequent disclosure by the minor prompted immediate legal action from the family.

During the inquiry by his father, the child detailed the assault and the intimidation tactics used by the teacher to keep him silent.

The boy revealed that about a month earlier, his Madrasa teacher, Syed Nadeem (22), forcibly took him to his house, stripped him, and committed unnatural s*x. The accused also threatened to kill the boy if he disclosed the matter to anyone, a police release said late on Thursday.

Following the complaint, the Balapur police registered a case and initiated an investigation, which led to the arrest and eventual prosecution of the teacher.

Upon successful completion of the investigation by city police and trial, the court dealing with POCSO cases on Thursday found the accused Syed Nadeem guilty and awarded him 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of INR 10,000. The accused was punished under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the IPC.
